PEI TOURISM WATER QUALITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Clean, safe drinking water is essential to the tourism industry. On PEI, we rely 100% on the safety of our groundwater, from source to tap. The tourism industry takes an aggressive approach in monitoring water quality. This is to maintain a high quality of driking water at tourism establishments and ultimately ensuring the safety of guests coming to Prince Edward Island.
Tourism Industry Act Regulations state:
“Where the drinking water provided to guests at a tourism establishment is not obtained from a municipal water system, the tourism operator of the tourism establishment shall cause the drinking water to be tested, every 3 months or part thereof during a calendar year that the tourism establishment is receiving guests, by a laboratory accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.”
TOURISM WATER STANDARDS ADVISOR
To ensure the tourism industry receives the education and assistance necessary to overcome water quality issues, a Tourism Water Standards Advisor is on staff. The Advisor is responsible for implementing the PEI Tourism Water Strategy, the goal of which is to help operators improve the water quality at their tourism establishments. Reporting to the Executive Director of Quality Tourism Services Inc., the Advisor works for and on behalf of all tourism operators to resolve water quality issues, ensure priority support, educate operators and be the first line of defense against on-going water quality issues.
To achieve the goal of educating tourism operators in areas such as well maintenance, water sampling, disinfection, etc., the advisor offers on site educational sessions to new and existing operators across PEI.
Feel free to contact the Tourism Water Standards Advisor (Year Round) at 902-566-3501 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org
